I just came back to California from Kentucky this past May (2007). It was nice there. It was very green and very quiet. I had a wonderful view of the Ohio River from my livingroom window, and it was nice to see wildlife walking through my yard. I experienced my first snowy winter in years in Kentucky. It was fun, actually, because after it snowed, my friend and I would go outside and try to identify the animal tracks in the snow in front of her house. Then, my son and I would try to identify the tracks in front of mine.

We ended up coming back to California because it was too slow a pace for my active 15-year-old. He was bored, but he's now happy because he's back with his friends and the hustle and bustle of city life. Do I plan to go back? Yes, I plan on going back for vacations to visit the many new friends I met there and to visit my best friend who still is there.

Small town living is great, as far as I'm concerned. But, I learned that it's not an opinion shared by busy teenagers. I think it was a good experience for him, anyway. It gave him a chance to experience something different. I think if anything, it made him appreciate San Diego and his friends more. Absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder.
